Sunfish
A Timeless Classic. Ready for Today’s Sailor.
Few sailboats have earned the global recognition and lasting appeal of the Sunfish. Introduced in the 1950s, the Sunfish quickly became a benchmark for simple, accessible, and rewarding sailing. More than seven decades later, it remains one of the most recognizable and widely sailed small boats in the world.
With its flat, lightweight hull, lateen rig, and straightforward setup, the Sunfish delivers pure sailing enjoyment—whether you’re stepping aboard for the first time or returning to the water with decades of experience.
Built on Heritage. Proven Over Generations.
Developed in 1951 by Alcort, Inc., the Sunfish evolved from the earlier Sailfish design, adding a comfortable cockpit, increased stability, and an easy-to-handle sail plan. These refinements helped make the Sunfish a fixture at sailing clubs, summer programs, cottages, and beaches across North America and around the world.
By the 1960s and 1970s, the Sunfish had also established itself as a respected racing class. Today, International Sunfish Class Association (ISCA) regattas continue to attract competitive sailors who value close racing, skill development, and one-design fairness.
Over the years, ownership of the Sunfish brand transitioned from Alcort to AMF, then to Vanguard and Laser Performance—each chapter contributing to the boat’s enduring legacy.
